Teaching a New Student (Part 4/4): After the Lesson

Post-Lesson Checklist

1. Let the student's family know what you worked on during the lesson.
2. Talk with the student and their family about any specific "homework" for them to practice during the week, and demonstrate if necessary.
3. Inform the student's family if they should purchase any music or accessories.
4. Ask the student and their family if they have any questions.
5. Ask the student and their family if they would like to schedule another lesson at this time.
6. Make sure you have cleaned up after yourself and have all of your belongings (or the student, if they come to you for lessons). 
7. Say goodbye and let the student and their family know that it was nice to meet them! If appropriate, you can also add, "See you next week!" or "Hope you have a good week!"

Follow up

Briefly check in with the student and their family during the week. Ask if they would like to schedule additional lessons on a recurring basis, or if they already have, you can confirm details for the next lesson.
